THE PREMIERS.
NECESSITY FOR UNITY. EMPIRE HAS MANY ENEMIES. CONSPIRACY TO DESTROY IT. By Telegraph.—Press Assn,—Copyright. Received June 14, 9.20 p.m. London, June 14. The Morning Post, discussing the Premiers’ Conference, says the Empire is still the prey to a multitude of enemies, all working to finish her. Unity is her only hope of salvation, but the workers for an elective Empire Parliament are doing ill service. The conference system is the best—Empire statesmen meeting as heads of equal States with equal voice. If common action is not secured in that way it cannot be secured at all. There is a conspiracy to destroy the Empire from within. That danger is more insidious than Germany, and can only be defeated by a common policy of vigilance, knowledge and cour-age.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. PARLIAMENT TO DISCUSS AGENDA. FURTHER DELAY EXPECTED. London, June 13. Mr. Chamberlain, in the House of Commons, announced the postponement of the Imperial Conference till next week owing to the Premier’s illness. The House would be given an opportunity on Friday to discuss the agenda of the conference. Replying to a question, Mr. E. Wood state*! that he had no information as to the net receipts received for the sale of Nauru phosphates. Sir J. Rees interjected: “Does the League of Nations receive a percentage?” (Laughter.) No answer was made. Received June 14, 8.20 p.m. London, June 13. If the majority of the Dominions’ representatives agree to attend the opening of the Irish Parliament there will be another dull week and the conference will probably sit on Monday only.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
