MORE PAY WANTED.

TRAMWAYMEN’S DISPUTE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, June 14. In accordance with instructions from the Minister of Labor, the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr. W. Newton) today presided over a conference to try to arrange a settlement of the tramwaymen’s dispute. The union, which is asking for an increase of 3d an hour and one day off in' seven, had applied that a Disputes Committee be set up under the Labor Disputes Investigation Act, 1913, and to-day’s proceedings were held with the object of seeing whether a settlement could not be reached before putting the provisions of the Act into operation. At the suggestion of the Commissioner the discussion was private. Wellington, Last Night. A conference between the parties in the tramwaymen’s dispute was held today, the proceedings being in camera. Two points proved a stumbling block, but it is hoped these will be overcome.
