THE MONTHLY MEETING. The New Plymouth Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wilson), Crs. J. Kibby, V, Griffiths, W. Rumball, T. N. Blackhall, J. Brown, R. A. Large and E. Dingle. JAMIES’ LANE.' Nine property owners wrote directing attention to the unsatisfactory condition of James’ Lane, and asked that it be permanently treated. They pointed out that there, was a considerable traffic over the route now. The street Jed from Devon Street to the centre of the town, and it would greatly improve this locality if something of a permanent nature was done. Consideration was deferred with a view to having the lane inspected by the streets committee. ’ The engineer submitted an estimate of £154 for doing certain work in Eliot Street, from Gill to Buller .Street. This referred to putting the footpath in ordqr, kerbing and channelling, and other work. The items were included in the schedule of the £57,000 loan. A note by the general manager stated: This piece o f footpath is in an extremely bad condition, and nothing short of complete reconstruction would make a satisfactory job. lhe streets committee is to report to next week’s meeting of the council on the question of carrying out work in this street.
