Returned Taranaki sports appear to ba unanimous on the opinion that Gladful was unlucky to lose first prize in the Campbell Hurdles at Ellerslie. Burt took him to the front three fences from home, and he jumped the last obstacle well clear of the favorite. Sea De'il. In the run to the post Gladful came out into the centre of the course, and possibly be interfered with Sea De’il, but it appeared doubtful if the latter could have overhauled Mr. Kemball’s gelding in the short distance to be covered to the judge's box. After consideration the stewards awarded the race to Sea De'il on the grounds of a cross on the part of Gladful. Coroglen was accounted unlucky to lose the Great Northern Steeples, and on his run In the Winter Steeples on the third day additional evidence was produced that such was the case. Oakleigl: set a warm pace, but was of no use to Coroglen, and though the latter lost his place through striking heavily at the first post and rails on the hill he came along In great style in the straight, and beat Old Mungindi decisively at the finish. Staying appears to be Coroglen’s strong point, and he should win big money before the season closes. Coroglen is a young horse, only five years old, and Is by Glen Albyn—Scotch Lady, owned by Mr. M. Gorrie. He was capably ridden by S. Henderson in the Winter Steeples.
