WOOL MARKET.
SPIRITED CHRISTCHURCH SALE. AN ADVANCE IN RATES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. The first local wool sale since the recent resumption and the fifth of the season was held to-day, when 800(1 bales were offered. There was a spirited sale, and practically seven-eighths of the catalogue was disposed of in the case of three-quarter-bred and crossbred at an advance on the local February rates, and a distinct advance on the recent northern auctions. Good half-bred averages practically the same as February sales, but seedy and dingy was a penny lower. Three-quarter-bred was about a penny higher, and crossbred was a penny to one and a half pence better than the recent northern auctions. The most encouraging feature, of the sale was the activity displayed for practically all classes of 40-38 wools. The bulk of the catalogue went to Home buyers, local mills obtaining a, very small proportion. Scoured wool was not wanted, and pieces dropped in price on the last Christchurch sale. The range of values was: Merino, Hid to 13|d; medium merino, 9d to lOd; inferior merino, 6d to 8d; super halfbred, to 12d; medium half-bred, B}d to 9fd; inferior halfbred, 6d to 8d; super three-quarter-bred, 7.|d to 9Ad; medium three-quarter-bred, 61d to 7id; inferior three-quarter-bred, 5d to 6d; super crossbred, 7d to 93d; medium crossbred, 4|d to 6Jd: inferior crossbred, 3£d to 4|d; half-bred pieces, 4d to 6£d; crossbred pieces, 2d to 3id.
