The match between Australia and Gloucester was resumed to-day in bright, warm weather, and the wicket was perfect. The attendance was 7000. " The overnight position was that Australia bad lost three wickets for 421. The not out men, Andrews (35)'and pellew (13) resumed the Innings to-day. The last ball of the first over Pellew deflected from Mills to Dennett at second slip, who accepted the catch. Gregory joined Andrews, whosst stumps were spread-eagled next ball by Parker. Ryder partnered Gregory, who went at the bowling tn vigorous fashion. Some excellent strokes were unproductive as a result of smart fielding. His effort was not free from a proportion of uppish strokes, which, however, fell in a safe zone. Ryder, endeavouring to emulate his colleague, drove Mills hotly to mldon, Barnett taking a fine catch and eliciting warm applause. C—l2—4b2. When Hendry had notched five he was clean bowled by a noball from Parker.

Gregdfry continued hitting, hoping for the best and disregarding the worst. He registered his half century in 42 minutes, the total* meanwhile advancing by 74. PROTEST AT CURTAILMENT. Received June 10, 5.5 p.m. London, June 0. Tire first definite move to secure the abandonment of play in the event of the Australians insisting only on two days’ play before the test, was taken at Sheffield by the united football and cricket club, on whose ground the match against Yorkshire was arranged. The committee decided to request the Yorkshire County Club to declare the match off unless three days’ play' was conceded, otherwise they must make arrangements to play elsewhere.—United Service. In connection with the request to Yorkshire to cancel the match against Australia if the latter insist on a two days’ match prior to the test, the chairman of the Sheffield united football and cricket club committee states a two days’ match is worthless, and is simply ana king the game a farce.
