The Government Statistician has pre* pared ;• preliminary return showing tha population of certain grouped counties, including interior borough and town districts. The return'covers the whole Dominion, and illustrates the movement ot population and percentage of increase or decrease in each district. The following are of local interest:—* Taranaki, Clifton, Inglewood, Egmont,| Whangamomona, Stratford, Eltham, Waimate West and Hawera counties and contained boroughs: Population (1921 ...... 55,193 Population (1916) 48,899 Increase ... 8294 (Equal to 13 per cent.) ’ The above-named counties do not in-, elude the whole of the provincial district! of Taranaki. For the whole Dominion the population in 1921 is 1,216,974, aid in 1916 was 1,099,449, an increase of 1t.7 per cent.
