(From Our Own Correspondent.) June 6. A sitting ‘of the Alagistrate’s • Court , was held on Wednesday, June 1, before Mr. C. -R. Orr Walker, S.M. Judgment was given for plaintiff in i the following cases: C. V. Stead v. G. D. Parsons, £B5 15s (costs £5 15s fid) : L. J. Raitenbury v. E. Beei;e, £8 19s 5d (30s (id); J. H. Kibby v. Toney Preston, claim £1 17s Gd (13s). For disorderly behaviour in AlcLean Street John Morehu was fined £2 and 7s costs. PLUNKET SOCIETY. The first committee meeting of the newly-formed Plunket Society Was fceld on Wednesday last, when, arrangements were made for Nurse Petersen, of New Plymouth, to visit Waitara every Friday. The committee have secured the shop opposite Mr. Johnston’s motor garage and the nurse can be consulted free of charge as from Friday, June 10. Although a branch of the society has been formed, the most essential part: has to be done to keep it going, and that is finance, such as the renting of the room, furnishing and paying the nurse’s expenses. Subscriptions arc earnestly invited and can be left at Wells and Co.’s shop, AlcLean Street. FIRE BRIGADE BALL. The annual plain and fancy dress ball took place on June 3 and was continued on the Saturday evening for the children. No less than £5O 5s 6d was taken, and as the expenses will not b» very great a good sum will be left to help on the good work. The fancy dresses were numerous and varied. The muaic was supplied by Alessrs. Fecks. “The Masqueraders,” who were in town, attended with their orchestra after their show and livened the proceedings bV playing extras and giving exhibitions of the jazz and fox trot by members of the company. The M.C.’s were Messrs. Frost, Pennington and Goodwin. The floor was just comfortable for dancing, but the children’s night it was packed like sardines in a tin, and one wondered where they all came from. £l7 was taken at the door. on children’s night, and when taken in sixpences one can imagine the multitude. Miss Goddard played the grand march. GENERAL. Air. G. Alarshall, who has always taken a keen interest in football, has resigned as selector of the senior team. At a general meeting it was resolved that there be three selctors, three,nonplayers and the captain of the team. On the vote being taken Alessrs. R. Tate and J. Cain were appointed.
