THE WINTER SHOW.
The good work done by the agricultural and pastoral societies throughout the Dominion is generally recognised, and this is probably due to the fact that they are helpful in advancing the best interests of the foremost industry in the country. In this connection the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society is doing its share of the important work for which these societies were brought into existence. As a great dairying centre Taranaki has advanced most creditably, not only in actual prosperity but in the adoption of means whereby the prosperity may be placed on a permanent basis by increased production consequent on the adoption of scientific methods and the building up of herds that give the beet results, as well as in the care and judicious feeding of stock. In stimulating the farmers to a wholesome rivalry the Agricultural Society is materially helping forward the progress and best interests of the whole community, which is dependent on the dairying industry. The public are therefore directly interested in the society’s work, which they can practically assist by membership, by attending the shows or by both. The twelfth Winter Show of the Society opens to-day at the Coronation Hall, *nd will continue to the end of the week, except for poultry, the exhibition of which closes on Friday. The importance of this show is recognised by the Government, the. Hon. W. H. Nosworthy (Minister of Agriculture) having undertaken to perform the opening ceremony. These winter shows always prove attractive to all classes of the community. and each year they offer greater inducements for patronage. It is for the public to show its appreciation of these efforts by attending in large numbers. The show deserves it.
