RIFLE SHOOTING.

; MEETING AT PATEA. RIFLEMAN KING WINS BELT, Very boisterous weather greeted the opening of the fifth annual meeting of the Pa tea Rifle Association, which was held on the Patea rifle range yesterday. The entries totalled 130, which is a record for the Patea meeting, and in spite of the weather about iUO competitors took part in the shoot. Alhough rendered somewhat erratic at times by the heavy wind the scores on the whole were remarkably good. In the first match at *2OO yards some very consistent shooting was accomplished, and the result was closely contested. Rifleman E. Thompson (Patea), the winner of this match with a score of 34, shot well, and was closely followed by Rifleman D. Roots (Hawera) and Rifleman W. Hudson (Wanganui) also scoring 34 and who tied for second place. The competition for the Association Championship Belt was also keenly contested. The following previous winners • of the belt were present: Rflmn. M. Marsh (Inglewood), D. Roots—present holder—(Hawera), and President P. Palmer (Patea). The belt on this occasion was won by Rflmn King, of Wangahui, who put up an aggregate score of 100 out of a possibly of 105 on the day’s shooting.
