HIGHER POSTAL RATES.
HAMPERING THE DOMINIONS. INFLUENCE ON TRADE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received June 3, 8.15 p.m. London, June 2. Australasian commercial circles are seriously concerned about the impending increase in postal rates operating in a fortnight, under whih the postage on books, newspapers, trade journals and other printed matter to the Dominions will be doubled, though letters are not affected. The proposal is viewed with alarm.
The Department of Overseas Trade is strongly remonstrating against the weakening of propaganda abroad, hampering trade communications and the dissemination of British views and ideas. Chambers of Commerce throughout the country and newspaper proprietors and publishers are making strfenuous efforts to secure the retention of the present rates.—United Service.
