HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.

PROVISION FOR AUCKLAND PROVINCE. Hamilton, June 2. A conference of delegates from the Te Awamutu, Thames Valley and Hamilton Power Boards, the Auckland City Council, the Hamilton Borough Council, and other local bodies was held to discuss hydro-electric power. Mr. L. Birks, Government electrical engineer, was present. He said the Government realised the urgency of the demand for electricity for the Auckland province. The matter had been carefully considered. The Government intended to further develop Horahora to the extent of over 2000 horse-power. The site of the big scheme had not been decided. but the Government had authorised the erection of a main transmißsion line from Hamilton to Auckland in advance of the headworks. The conference decided that the Government be urged to take immediate steps to increase the Horahora scheme to its utmost capacity; also that the Government be asked, in the event of being unable to carry out the Arapuni scheme owing to lack of finances or any other reasons, to consider handing the matter over to the local bodies in the Auckland province.
