THE Y.W.C.A. HOSTEL.

FURTHER QUESTIONS ANSWERED. “WILL THE Y.W.C.A. HOSTEL BE FOR MEMBERS ONLY?” (Contributed.) This question was asked by the head of one of the business firms, who continued to amplify his query by an explanation: “VVe sometimes want to send to Wellington and to other places for girls who can do special factory work. We need them for the business, but we cannot ask them to come if we have no place for them to live.” “No, Sir,” came the answer; “the Y.W.C.A. hostel will be for any young woman who has need of the accommodation it will afford, regardless of membership.” The town association claims to operate for the good of the whole community, and its aim is to be used in co-operative service for all young women! Therefore it cannot exist for its itiembers only, and when later it develops a programme of activities they, too, will be open to girls and women regardless of their affiliation with the association as members. At a conference of Y.W.C.A. representatives, which took place at the end of the war, it was unanimously agreed that the association should do nothing less in a town than act on a community-wide basis. “Who are ' the members of the Y.W.C.A. ?”

The members are that group who, being in sympathy with the aim of the association, desire to be either active agents in the carrying out of its programme in their town, or they may desire to be part of a great world movement of young women which has a fine Christian purpose. Members can give individual services which facilitate the administration of the programme, and they can vote and hold office on committees.
