DOMINION RUGBY UNION. VISIT OF THE SOUTH AFRICANS. *TOUR OF FRENCH TEAM. '.s* Telegraph. -Prest Association Wellington, Last Night. At a meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union.) to-night the West Coast. Union asked that the disqualification of M. and C. P. McElwee be confirmed. It was stated that these players were instrumental in talking the Wawheraite. Club over to the league. It was decided to give the players fourteen days to show reason why they should not be disqualified, and to ask the West Coast. Union, to supply further^ details. Some discussion took place over the Springboks’ visit. It was stated that African team left Capetown behind schedule time, and it was suggested that to make up time the team be asked to forego the week’s rest in Australia before the Australian Lour commenced. was stateil that the New Zealand toup might have to be curtailed so as to fitj in with the return passage of the team. The chairman (Mr. G. W. Slade) mentioned that there wan no steamer for South Africa from Sydney in November, and it would coat £lOOO to keep the team in New Zealand a further month. Mr. Wylie: This question of getting them back is rather serious.
The chairman: Yes, it is’ becoming a nightmare now. The secretary reported that he had written to Australia in regard to the Maori team’s visit/ in July or August. They might arrange that the Mrtoria meet the Springboks at Sydney. The secretary of the New South Walt» Union forwarded information regarding the probable visit of a French team during the 1922 season. The v eam will be assisted financially by the French Government. The team comprised mostly army men, and it was hoped to visit South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and America. The chairman will discuss details of the Australasian tour when visiting Australia.
THE LEAGUE GAME. NEW ZEALANDERS IN SYDNEY. Received June 2, 10.15 p.m. Sydney.. June 2. The New Zealand League football team was accorded a civic reception in the Town Hall. Mr. Stirling, businest manager of the New Zealanders, saia they had been handicapped in New.
