SCHOOL FOR MOTUROA.
MEETING OF RESIDENTS. PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION FORMED. The question of approaching the auu thorities' to erect a school in the Motui roa district was discussed by a meet* ing of residents of Moturoa last night The meeting was held originally to ar range for a local committee to tak< charge of the Ngamotu domain, whicl was recently set aside as a reserve, buj opportunity was taken of the gathering of residents to discuss the school pro posala. The Mayor (Mr. F. E. Wil son) presided. In introducing the subject, Mr. W. H Fitzherbert said that four acres hat been set aside in the district for a school site, and, as the site was as good as any in Taranaki they were anxious to see a building erected’ When it wae considered that there were five or sis hundred children crowded together at the West End School, it behoved resi* dents of Moturoa to put forward then claims for a school. When they considered what was done in other parts ol New Plymouth the proposition of forming a local association to forward the interests of Moturoa might well lx adopted. Mr. Fitzpatrick moved that a Moturoa Progressive Association bq formed, and he expressed the opinioij that one of the main planks of any ne¥| body should be to secure the establislu ment of a school. The motion was seconded by Mr. Wat* kins, who expressed the opinion that d school at Moturoa was absolutely neceai sarv. The only way to overcome the difficulty at West End was to have fl new school at Moturoa. He advocated putting before the authorities the ures as to the number of children in thd area who could attend a school.
Mr. Fitzpatrick informed the meeting that the number of children who were in a position to attend a Moturod school would be about 200. The Mayor said that what had been done in other parts of the town was an example of what could be accomplished by an association of local interests ta foster the aims of a particular district. Mr. R. A. I>arge suggested that the name of the proposed body be altered to a ratepayers’ association and that they join up with St. Aubyn. Mr. Fitzpatrick replied that there were some who were not ratepayers, and it was his desire to include everyone possible. Mr. W. A. Moreton was elected chairman of the association, pro tem, and Mr. E. J. Carr was elected secretary. A juimher Af .mambara wata amroUed.
