BASIC WAGE REFUSED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn Received June 1, 8.35 p.m. Melbourne, June 1. The Federal Public Service Arbitration Court rejected the claim of the Public Service Unions for a basic wage for all adult employees of £5 16s 6d weekly, as if granted it would involve the Government in an additional expenditure of between £4,000,000 and £5,000,000. The union’s claim was based on the finding of the Commonwealth Basie Wage Commission.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.

MELBOURNE AIR TRAGEDY. Received June 1, 8.35 p.m. Melbourne, June 1. At the inquest on the victims of the aeroplane smash (when three persons, the pilot, Hubert Ross, and twe passengers, Miss Jessie Dorman, and Cyril Harris, were killed by the Avro machine crashing in the back yard of a house at Port Melbourne), an expert, in evidence, advanced the theory that the heel of Miss Dorman’s shoe jammed the rudder bar, causing the machine to fall into a left spin. Witness added that Miss Dorman’s heel was almost tom off.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
