DISTRICT NEWS.

MAHOE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A very enjoyable evening was spent at the local hall on Tuesday night last, when a farewell social and dance was tendered to Miss Frewin, the retiring pupil teacher. The hall was well ’filled with residents of the 'district and visitors from the surrounding districts. During the evening the d iainnian ®f the school committee (Mr. G. M. Anderson) presented Miss Frewin with a silver tea-set and tray. Mr. F. J. Cumberworth, headteacher of the school, paid a tribute to Miss Frewin, remarking that her place would be hard to fill. Mr. S. A. Mann suitably replied on behalf of Miss Frewin. During the evening Misses Franklyn, Tait and Mr. C. Maindonald sang and Misses Davey and Mackenzie played a pianoforte duet, all the items being greatly appreciated by the audience. The music was supplied by Miss E. Swindlehurst, of Eltham, extras being played by Misses Bailey, Power, and Seymour. The floor was in good order and Mr. J. Mackenzie made an efficient M.C. A first class supper was provided by the ladies, who are to be highly praised for the way they carried out their duties. I understand Miss Frewin is to be married shortly. This is one of several weddings which are to take place during the winter in this district.
