THE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP, By Tele.srnpli.—Press Assn.—CojiyrlcM. London, May 30. The fields in the women’s golf chaimpionship at Turnberry include eleven Americans. In the first round Miss Molly Griffiths beat M .ss Ross by seven up and six to play; Miss Cccii Leitch beat Miss Sterling (zkmerica) by three up and two to play. LADIES’ CHAMPIONSHIP. TOURNAMENT THIS. WEEK. The Taranaki Ladies’ Provincial Golf Championship will be played on the New Plymouth Club’s links to-morrow and Friday of this week. Forty-five competitors Fave entered, and besides these there will be the late entries, so that a succssfiil tournament, is assured. Entries from ladies outside New Plymouth have been received as follows: Wpl 1 i n j Gambrill. Russell-Grace, B, Smith, Orton, Bayly, and W. Peat; Misses Harper, Addenbrooke and Jackson. Hawera.—-Mrs. McLean. Inglewood.—Mrs. Surrey, Miss Hamerton. The qualifying round of the championship (IS holes, medal play) will be played on Thursday morning, eight players to qualify. A medal handicap will be combined, with this round. In the afternoon there Will be the first round of the championship (match play), and a bogey handicap of 18 holes. On Friday morning the championship semi-flnalS will be played and also a flag match handicap for A and B grades, A grade being handicap of 25 or under, and B grade handicap over 25. The final of the championsL'i.p will be played on Friday afternoon, and there will also be a four-ball bogey handicap, players to choose their own partners.
INTER-CLUB MATCH. NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. The annual inter-club match between New Plymouth and Hawera will be played at Hawera on Friday, the New Plymouth players travelling by the ana 11 train. HAWERA. Eltha-m sent a team of twelve men to Hawera on Saturday, and after a series of' interesting matches the.result was a win for the local team by seven matches to four,, while one was halved.
