WAIKAREMOANA SCHEME. EAST COAST RAILWAY. By Te)A<rr’i t h --Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Reforming to the hydro-electric workrt at \\ .-. inoana. the Hon. .1. G. Coates (Miii.rter of Public Works) said good progress was being made with the internal roading to the power stations, etc., and these would soon be completed, Men were constructing a road from Waikaremoana to Wairoa. The plant waa expected to arrive between now and the summer, and the electrical survey ani the necessary specificathvis were all being taken in hand. The East Coast raff way was also mentioned. Mr. Coates said ha would not t be able to tackle anything like progressive work there for a couple of /ears, but he hoped then to have cleared enough lines to be able to tackle the East Coast line in earnest. The Wrikokapa construction should be finished in twelve months. In connection, with the Napier end, if they could make satisfactory arrangements to meet th© Harbor Board and as soon as the material arrived for laying the lire to E«k-< dale, the men now at work on the northern end would be brought hack to do the plate-laying up to Eskdale, only sufficient men to keep the machinery going being left at th,e northern end. The balance of the work would be available for relief work. The first essential would be the construction of roads, aa at present the place had no outlet at all.
