JAPAN’S CROWN PRINCE.
IS THE VISITOR GENUINE? A REMARKABLE THEORY. Received May 31, 1.35 a.m. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 30. The Daily Herald quotes the Church Times as advancing the remarkable theory that somebody is impersonating the Japanese Crown Prince during liiEnglish tour, owing to Japanese oppos:. tion to the heir to the Throne demeaning himself and Japan by visiting a foreign and barbarous nation.
The Church Times declares those in England knowing Japan have a growing feeling that the present visitor is not the actual Crown Prince. They see nothing improbable in the rumour that the Government sent somebody else to impersonate him, as opposition to the visit came largely from the military and bureaucratic set, which rules the Throne, with the Emperor practically an imbecile.—United Service.
Received May 31, 1.35 a.m. Sydney, May 30. The Japanese Consul expresses indignation at the Church Times’ theory, which he characterises as utterly ridiculous, adding that doubtless the rumour was manufactured by persons anx'ious to disrupt the friendly relationship between Britain and Japan.—Aus.-N.Z.
