INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) /\ visitor to Inglewood, who . has hitherto not seen much of this part of Taranaki, but whose opinions concerning its future prospects are at least worthy of consideration, is Mr. J. Landers, who has for the past two months been staying with one of our early and best known citizens, his brother-in-law, Mr. George Priest. Air. Landers has been in New Zealand since 1880. He enlisted in the old A.C. force shortly after his arrival and was for a time stationed at Opunake, at that time a centre of interest on account of the unsettled state of native affairs at Parihaka and the West Coast of Taranaki generally. Later he was in Wellington, Rotorua, Lyttelton and again in Wellington, where he eventually joined the permanent artillery, with whom he served till his retirement on superannuation, a year' or so before the outbreak of the war in 1914. He was then recalled to the colors and served as sergeant till 1920, when he finally retired. Though, as above stated, Air. Landers has not, until lately, seen much of this district, he has naturally always taken a good deal of interest in its welfare as the home of his sister, Mrs. G. Priest, and her family. Now, after spending some time here, he expresses himself as pleased with the town and country generally, and says that he finds the people here very much alright except for one thing: they arc too self-centred and fail, to their own loss really, to make the place better known, and so help it to take the position it is worthy of holding as an important centre of the stock trade, dairying and bacon industries in Taranaki. as well as a suitable holiday resort for visitors who wish to visit- Mount Egmont or other scenic gems of the pro-
