The death is announced from Korotneka, Kaiapoi, of Mr. Arthur Ellis, in his 89th year. Mr. G. H. Saunders, who has been bn a holiday trip to Australia, has returned to New Plymouth.
Mr. J. O’Driscoll, who spent the last few years in Queensland, is on a. visit to New Plymouth. He leaves for America and England by the next trip of the Niagara. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie , (acting-Min-ister of Railways) has written to Mr. S. G. Smith, M.P., stating that owing to departmental business requiring his attention in Wellington he cannot visit New Plymouth at present. Constable D. J. O’Neill, of Rahotu, has received notice of his promotion to the rank of sergeant and is being transferred to Wellington. Constable O’Neill has been stationed in Taranaki for about 12 years. For five or six years he was in New Plymouth and then was transferred to the charge of the Rahotu district. He has always proved himself a equable officer and his many friends throughout the district will be pleased to learn of his well-earned promotion. The death occurred at Auckland on Friday of Mr. Frank C. Robertson, formerly well-known in New Plymouth. He had been in indifferent health for some time past. The late Mr. Robertson bad endeared himself to a large circle of friends. He was an enthusiastic cricketer and played for the Rovers and Carrington Road Clubs in New Plymouth. When Warner’s English team visited New Zealand in 1903 he represented Taranaki at Hawera and also North Taranaki at New Plymouth. Prior to coming to Taranaki he played' for the Midland Club at Christchurch. He was a first-cass bat and wicket-keeper and was a keen and clean sportsman, taking defeat or success in a sportsmanlike and manly spirit. A number of old Taranaki cricketers forwarded a wreath to Auckland, as a symbol of their deep regard and sympathy.
