Says the Wanganui Chronicle:—That many people are holding large sums, which, if put in circulation, would mitigate to a large extent the unemployment and distress which are unfortunately growing. Within the past few weeks we have heard of two men who openly boasted that they were waiting to invest large sums on farms which they expected would soon be greatly down in price. Comparatively few people, we suppose, have big sums lying at call, but there are a great number who are holding considerable amounts. Both the men we have mentioned are strictly honorable men. They would not take a penny stamp that did not belong to them, yet they feel quite justified in stopping the v;heels of industry and commerce. They may not realise that they arc brakes on the wheels of progress, but undoubtedly they are, as is every man who prevents others carrying or. their legitimate avocations. Men or institutions who are hoarding capital in times of stress are certainly not patriotic. "
