What an enormous sum of money motorists throughout the world have to pay annually for the privilege of motoring on the public highways! In America, where !),000,000 cars are registered, the yearly car amount to close on £100.000,000. Tn England nearly £6,000,000 is paid by motorists in car taxes, etc.
A member of a firm of land agents in Whakatane recently received a letter from Marlborough, stating that feed for stock was dreadfully scarce there. The writer of the letter had seen lambs sold for 6d each, and on one other occasion heard a sheepman offer a fanner 300 cull ewes if he liked to drive them away.
