DISTRICT NEWS.

KAIMATA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) After adjusting accounts and showing a good balance on the credit side, the sports committee held a smoke concert in the hall. The function proved a success ta every way. A large number of visitors turned up from Inglewood, speeches and sqngs were given, cardplaying indulged ta, and the Inner man attended'to. Mr. J. Klenner (chairman of the sports committee) kept things moving merrily, and all present enjoyed themselves

thoroughly. A very enjoyable time was spent in the hall on Thursday night last, when a social and dance was given by the sports committee to the ladies who worked so strenuously on the day of the sports. A capital programme was submitted. Mrs. A. J. Taylor and Mr. S. Carter supplied the music. The night was beautifully fine. During the evening a good supper was dispensed by the gentlemen. Mrs. S. Cameron, on behalf of the ladies present, in a neat little speech, thanked the gentlemen for their cordial welcome and pleasant evening, which were much appreciated. At a meeting of the Hall Committee on Monday last, it was decided to hold a queen carnival contest in aid of hall funds. The following ladies were chosen to contest an election at a future date; Miss Z. Mace, Miss R. Jones, and Miss F. Martin. The secretary was instructed to procure the necessary material for the working of the contest, and a very good time is assured. There should be a good muster of householders -on Monday, June 6, for the purpose of electing a. school committee, as the district failed on the last occasion. We have Miss Linn in place of Miss Death, who recently resigned. The new teacher will have a cordial welcome from the committee and parents.

Another local couple will*be entering the holy bonds of matrimony in the near future. They have our good wishes.
