A special meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held at New Plymouth yesterday, when there were present: Crs. J. S. Connett (in the chair), J. W. Wooldridge, O. Penwarden, S. Vickers and J. Andrews. The council sat as a finance committee, the outcome being a decision to reduce the wages of all permanent hands by ‘ls per day. A Dutch Fair is being held under the auspices of the Methodiot Young Women’s Bible Class at Whiteley Hall this afternoon and evening. The fair is being opened at 3 p.m., and will continue the afternoon, and evening. Patrons of the New Plymouth branch of the Melbourne Clothing Co. are reminded that Saturday next will be observed as a half-holiday under the new conditions constituting Saturday as the statutory half-hoQiday. Customers are requested to be on the qui vive for the special bargains on Friday, as advertised in the daily newspapers.

Entries close definitely on Saturday next, at 5 p.m. / The long-expected Saturday half-holi-day starts this week and Friday will be the late shopping night.
