One speaker said the present position was brought to such a pass by the extremist leaders of the men that many farmers were faced with ruin if it continued. The conference rejected a proposal t«>-\ add a representative of the public to the Arbitration Court, it being generally conceded that the presence of the Judge was satisfactory, as he was the representative of the Government and the people. It was nesolved to ask the Government to revert to the old system of notifying taxpayers by post when the land tax was due; also that motor car and lorryj drivers be compelled to carry a license as to efficiency. The conference supported a remit re•commending holding exhibits made up of farmers’ products, showing the cost of the raw material the cost of the finished article. The Government was urged tp con«i tinue with a liberal forestry programme. Delegates protested against the Government being asked to compel all people keeping poultry for the sale of eggs to pay a registration fee. It was decided to hold the next conference at Wanganui.
