CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING.
OOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP. won by D. McLachlan, of mastbrton. The Dominion clay bird championship was fired at Stratford yesterday under unfavorable conditions, a misty rain, which was falling throughout the day, rendering the shoot most difficult. The championship was conducted by the New Zealand Gun Clubs’ Association, and Mr. T. Parker (president), and Mr. A. L. Falls (referee) were in attendance. There were twenty-eight competitors, many of whom came from long distances to take part. The winner was Mr. D. McLachlan, of Master ton, who shot off for the championship with Mr. F. Whittle, of Stratford, and Mr. L. P. Hughes, of Auckland, after all had broken twenty out of the twenty-one clays. In the shoot off, McLachlai. broke tis bird, and the other two missed, the three dividing the sweepstake of £49 6s. The gold medal valued at £l7 10s, which was donated by the Stratford Gun Club, was presented to the winner by Mr. Parker, who congratulated him on his success. Details are;—,

Nine-bird Sweepstake.—There were 29 competitors, and Skilling, Quartermain, Turner, Truscott, Edwards and Harrison broke the possible and divided £22 10s. Glennie, McLachlan, A. Nelson, Lundberg, Casey, Petrie, Wheeler, and Lineham each had one miss. First Miss Out,—There were eighteen competitotrs, and King and Turner were still in on th© eighteenth round, wlren King missed his bird and Turner became the winner. VISITORS ENTERTAINED. The visiting gunmen were entertained by the members of the Stratford Gun Club at a smoke concert in the Foresters’ Hall last evening, the evening being spent in a most enjoyable manner with music, song and story. Items were contributed by Messrs. S. P. Hughes, A. Dobson, B. Vinsen, A. Kelley, H. Harrison. (4. E. Jago, S. Glennie, and others. A number of toasts were honored during the evening.
