NEW PLYAKTUTH BRANCH. At the ordinary meeting of the Union, Miss Taunt read the report of the Dominion Convention. The thirty-sixth annual convention was held at Ashburton, eighty members being present. Thirty who attended for the first time were accorded a special welcome from the president. The corresponding secretary reported ninety adult unions, six “Y” branches, and a total membership of 4862. The corresponding secretary was appointed to attend the Australasian Triennial Convention, to be held in Alelbourne in Alay.
Congratulations were forwarded to Air. A. S. Adam* (Dunedin) on his recent promotion to the Supreme Court Bench. Amongst the correspondence was a. letter of thanks from Lady Astor, who informed Mrs. Don that New Zealand had sent the first overseas congratulations on her entry into Parliament. The chief' features of the year’s work were the efforts of the Auckland and Wanganui Unions to establish hostels for young women, and of Willard House and Orphanage in Palmerston North. On Sunday morning a large number of delegates and friends, headed by the Salvation Army’ Band, marched to the Anglican Church, where Rev. Guise Brittain preached a fine and appropriate sermon.
