WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) May 23. The re-formed Monakoriki Golf Club held its opening on Thursday last in perfect weather. The club was first formed prior to the war, but had to remain dormant during that period, but the re-format ion has met with success in the matter of membership. The president (Mr. S. G. Fraser) welcomed those present, and expi-essed the hope that those who had not joined up yet would do so and take advantage of the healthful game. He paid a tribute to Mr. A. Jaggs for the amount of work he had' done to make the course playable. Mixed foursomes were played during the afternoon. Tea was provided by the ladies. The next match will be played on the 28th, when an eighteen hole handicap match will take place. At the close of the retailers’ meeting on Wednesday evening last, Mr. Rennie called attention to the fact that the chairman (Mr. Parry) was leaving next morning by train, en route to the Old Country, and he thought it only fitting that they should give Mr. Parry three hearty cheers and wish him and his wife a sale and pleasant trip. The meeting arranged to form a branch of the Plunket Society, which was held in St. John’s Hall, was well attended. The chair was taken by Mrs. W. Weston, president of the New Plymouth branch, who gave a very inter-

esting speech on the aims of the society. The Plujiket Nurse also spoke on the good work that was being done, and Mrs. Stuart Russell (the hon. secretary of the New Plymouth ’Society), offered help to the Waitara branch. A committee was formed, with Mrs. W. T. Joll as president and Mrs. H. Wills as' hon. secretary and treasurer. It is contemplated starting the branch early in June, or as soon as the necessary arrangements are complete. The membership fee is only 5s a year, and the nurse’s services are absolutely free.
