THE MILITARY BALL
NEW PLYMOUTH FUNCTION. * The success of the forthcoming military ball is assured, and the committee in charge of arrangements report very satisfactory progress. Citizens have given very valuable assistance to the boys. The Citizens’ Band has again kindly offered to provide the music for the grand march and the early part of the programme, and a special orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. George, lias been engaged to supply the music for the remainder of the programme. The Agricultural Society is allowing the use of the annexes for supper. The Mayoress (Mrs. F. E. Wilson) has offered to take charge of the supper arrangements, and several ladies have kindly offered their services. A meeting of the ladies will be held in the Soldiers’ Club rooms next Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock, to make arrangements for a first-class supper. Any lady who is willing to assist the territorials in this most particular branch of the ball, and all those who have kindly volunteered their services, are asked to attend. A special feature of the ball this year will be the decorations, and for this purpose a further supply of greenery is, required. Anyone willing to allow the committee greenery or other material suitable for decorating purposes is requested to communicate with either of the secretaries, or ring ’phone 227. Donations to assist with the decorations will be thankfully received. The committee have been offered the use of motor lorries and expresses, and will be able to attend to the collection of all decorating materials. Arrangements have also been made to run late trams from Eliot Street to the Breakwater and Fitfcroy at 1 a.m.
