ADOPTED CHILDREN.
PROTECTING THEIR RIGHTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 22, 5.5 p.m. London, May 21 The departmental committee on the adoption of children recommends the passage of an Act giving legal recognition to adoption, securing for the adopter and child rights and duties similar to those of natural parents and children. The committee also recommends State supervision of adoptions which do not receive formal legal sanction and also the legitimisation of children born out of wedlock by the subsequent marriage of the parents. The committee calls attention to the great increase in adoptions owing to bereavements ’during the war, and the desirableness of protecting adopters against parents claiming adopted chil. ’ dren when they reach wage-earning i ages. —Aus.-N.Z.
