LETTERS OF NELSON.
THREE UNPUBLISHED DOCUMENTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received May 22, 5.5 p.m London, May 21. Lord Spencer has handed the Times three unpublished letters by Horatio Nelson, which were written to Lord Spencer on board the San Josef between 1797 and 1801. The first two eulogise the sea-going qualities of the ship which Nelson captured in the Battle of St. Vincent. He urges that he be allowed to take the San Josef on a Baltic expedition, and with characteristic touch he says: “My only desire is to have a ship which will carry me swiftly alongside the Russians. I long to keep the San Josef for a knock at a French first-rater when we have settled our difference with Paul.” Nelson adds: “If it be a sin to.covet glory I am the most offending soul alive.” — Times Service.
