LONDON MARKETS. BUTTER PRICES FIRMER. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, May 10. Bradford wool.—lt was a holiday market and quotations were unchanged. Butter.—Firmer in price. Danish in London has been raised to 210 s as the Germans are now buying consequently there is some demand for New Zealand at about 1955, but Australian Js neglected, buyers considering 188 s, the price asked too high. Cheese.—Easier as new Canadian Is offering at 98b landed. New Zealand slow; white 134 s to 1365, colored 150 s; Australian is practically cleared. Wheat.—Quiet in all departments. Flour.—Dull. Australian, 67s ex store. Barley.—Quiet. Oats.—Flnm. New Zealand ex quay, 44s 6d to 48s. Beans.—Quiet and unchanged. Peas.—Slow. New Zealand blue 280 s to 3205. Tasmanian 300 s to 3605. Sugar.—Tending to be easier. ADDINGTON STOCK SALES. Christchurch, May 18. At Addington market there was an Improved sale for practically all classes of stock, excepting beef and store sheep. There was a spirited sale of good forward wethers, price* being 2s a head better than last week. Ewes stowed an advance of about Is (id. Store Sheep.—Best sale for several months. Good forward lambs made 10s to 13s 7d; fair wether lambs 7s to 9s 6d; small 6s to 6s 9d. Good ewe lambs made 10s 4d to 13s sd; inferior 6s 6d; forward 4 and 6-tooth wethers 13s 6d to 15s 7d; ordinary 12s to 13s. Two and 4-100111 wethers made 12s to 13s; good 4, 6, and 8-tooth ewes, in lamb, made 13s to 16s; low-conditioned 10s 9d to 2s 6d; good 2-tooth ewes, in lambj made 13s 6d to 15s I Id; ordinary 2 and 4-tooth ewes Ils to 12s 9d. Fat Lambs.—Forty-five penned. A keener sale, with prices averaged by 6%d to 7d per lb. Freezing buyers secured all but a few pens. Extra prime lambs made 23s lid; prime 19s 6d to 22s l 6d; medium 7s to 19s 3d; light 10s 7d to 16s 3d.
Fat Sheep.—A much better sale, valuer, improving by 2s 6d per head on Iqst week's rate. Extra prime wethers made 25s to 27s prime 20s fld to 24s 7d; medium 17s 9d to 20s 3d; inferior 14s to 17s 3d; extra prime ewes made 21s to 20s Id; prime 7s to 19s 9d. medium 4s to 16s 9d; inferior 9s to 13s 6d. Fat Cattle.—A big yarding and a reduction in values of from 20s to 30s a head. Prime beef sold at 33s per 1001 b., but the bulk went at about 27s 6d. A good proportion was passed. Prime steers made £l3 10s to £IG ss; medium £9 5s to £l3 ss, light £3 10s to £8 10s. Prime teifers unade £8 to £l3 10s, ordinary £4 to £7 10s; prime cows made £6 10s to £l5 10s; ordinary £2 5s to £6. Vealers. — A. noticeable falling off in quality. Runners made to £4; good vealers £2 15s to £3; medium calves £1 2s 6d to £2 10s; small 5s to 17s fid. Store Cattle.—Better sale than for some weeks. Three and 4-year-old steers made £7 ss; 2-year £5 10s; medium cows £3; good suckers £4 10s, Dairy Cattle.—A most active sale. Good second calvers made £2O; medium to good cows £lO to £5 10s; late springers £8; inferior cows £2 10s to £6. Fat Pigs.—Choppers made 50s to £5; baconers £4 10s to £5 15s (average price per lb. 7%d to 7%d) ; porkers made 55s to 75s (average price, 9%d to lOd per lb). Store . Pigs.—Medium stores made 30s to 42s Gd; small stores 14s to 27s 6d; weaners 7s •to 16s. BURNSIDE STOCK SALES. Dunedin, May 18. All classes of fat stock were well represented at Burnside to-day. It was anticipated at the opening of the sale that values would recede on account of the large offerings, and this proved to tie the case, all classes of stock meeting with an indifferent demand, with the exception of lambs, which sold at an advance of 2s to 2s 6d on last week's rates. Fat Cattle.—There was a large yarding, numbering 230 head of medium quality. While a number gf pens contained animals that required further fattening, there was a good number of pens of animals in prime condition. The decline in prices by comparison with last week’s rates was equal to 10s a head, prime ox beef being worth 29s to 31s per lb., and cow beef 20s to 21s. Prime bullocks mod© £l5 15s to £l7 17s 0d; medium £ll 10s to £l4; light, from £7. Cows and heifers made £8 to £9 2s Gd; others from £5.
Store Cattle.—A full yarding was offered, among the number being several pens of wellbred and forward steers. Bidding for this class was firm at late rates, but for young and very backward cattle the demand was not quite so keen. Mature bullocks hardened a trifle; calves and vealers were cheaper, and others unchanged. Dairy cattle sold at late rates. Sheep.-r-A large yarding, numbering 4607 head of mixed quality, medium and secondclass ewes preponderat’ng. At the commencement of the sale bidding was slack, but as the sale progressed buyers became a little more active. Heavy-weight wethers declined to the extent of 2s a head, while mediumclass sheep were disposed of at prices on a par with* those which ruled at the previous week’s sale. Extra prime heavy-weight wethers realised from 27s Gd to 28s 3d; prime 20s to 26s 3d; medium 16s 9d to 19s; light and unfinished sorts, from 14s upwards. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes realised from 24s Gd to 27s 3d; prime 18s 6d to 22s 6d; medium 14s 6d to I’Ts 9d; light and aged from 9s cd u pwards. Lambs.—A large yarding of fair quality, numbering 2667 bead. A small proportion was suitable only for graziers. There was very keen competition. Prices were about 2s a head dearer than last week’s rates, which were cn the basis of about Gd per lb. Pigs.—A fair yarding, which sold at a decline of 10s a head on last week's rate.
