CARPENTIER-DEMPSEY MATCH. BOTH MEN TRAINING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn—CopyrlghL New York, May 19. Since his arrival Carpentier has beeji resting at his training quarters at Manhasset, Long Island, which are surrounded by high fences. The Frenchman is avoiding publicity and has announced that he will train secretly, whereas Dempsey is giving public exhibitions in Atlantic City. Carpentier will not commence active training for a week, after which he will be doing mainly road work. His sparring partners are Joe Jeannette and Paul Journee, the French heavy-weight. Dempsey is already boxing with Leo Houch, Jack Clifford, Jack Renauld, and Alex Trambites. While the public regard Carpentier’s chances as slender, he is a sentimental favorite. TOURNAMENT AT ELTHAM. Eltham Sports and Pastimes Club has ecided 3 to hold a tournament towards the end of June. Arrangements have been unade to match McAsey (Lepperton), and W. Scott in a professional contest, and this match should be worth witnessing, as the pair, when they met in an amateur bout at Elttam some time ago, put up the greatest contest that has been seen in Eltham. In addition, Thomas, who is also turning professional, will be matched with a well-known professional, probably Hart, who gave an exhibition at New Plymouth last week.
