A PLAYER’S EXPULSION. QUESTION OF REINSTATEMENT. By Telegraph.— Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. There was a warm discussion at ths meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-night, on the ques* tion of the reinstatement of J. Douglas of the Southern Club, Dunedin, who was expelled in 1915 for accepting money to prevent his side winning a match against Otago University. The action of the union at ita last meeting referring the case to the English Union was the subject of * letter from the Otago Union, which pointed out that the New Zealand Union had already reinstated expelled players, and that the same course should be adopted in dealing with Douglas. The chairman (Mr. G. W. Slade) moved, in effect, that the previous resolution be rescinded, and that the New Zealand Union has full power to deal with the case.
It was pointed out by one member that Douglas had an honorable career in the war, and it was decided to defef the question to the next meeting, the correspondence of the Otaeo Ufcfon will be considered.
