Considerable discussion took place in regard to the agreement entered into in England for amalgamation of the two organisations, a copy of which was before the meeting, and it was resolved that the meeting approved the agreement recently entered into by the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance, and agreed to a united concert for New Plymouth, subject to the approval of the Home authorities. It was decided to ask Dr. William E. Collins, chairman of the Wellington District of the British Red Cross, to meet the subscribers nf the two organisations to discuss the plans for the future, on or about June 14. It was suggested by the,Mayor that a public meeting be arranged, and an endeavor to interest others in the peace time monument of the now amalgamated societies. The joint secretaries were authorised to arrange a course of lectures, medical, nursing, and ambulance, during the winter months.
The local branch of the Red Cross Society has a sum of £2OO for the benefit of extra comforts for sick and wounded soldiers, £l5O of which is invested in the New Plymouth Post Office Savings Bank, the balance being upon current account.
