MOTOR CAR BURNED.

ON ELTHAM-STRATFORD ROAD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, May 14. A case of wanton destruction occurred at Ngaere last night, when a motor car belonging to Mrs. M. Miscall, of Orlando Street, Stratford, was deliberately destroyed by fire on the Stratford-Eltham Road. The car, which was “used as a taxi-cab by Mr. Frank Miscall, met with an accident while returning from the Hawera races on Thursday night, and it was abandoned on the roadside about half-a-mile south of the Ngaere school. Instructions were given to Mr. W. B. Lacey, garage proprietor, yesterday to brjng the car into Stratford, but as Mr. Lacey did not have a car available yesterday for towing it iu, Mr. Miscall agreed to a suggestion that the car be brought back to Stratford this morning for repairs. Accordingly Mr. Lacey, accompanied by a mechanic and Mr. Miscall, went down to see the car this morning, and to their complete surprise they found nothing but a burnt shell.

Further revealed that the fire had been caused deliberately, the ground being strewn with dead matches. The car was almost a complete wreck, the whole of the body being burnt, also the back wheels and tyres. The car was a six-cylinder Buick. The Eltham and Stratford police are investigating. The car was insured in the Phoenix office for £4OO.
