MISSION IN ST. JOSEPH’S CHURCH.
A correspondent writes:—The past fortnight has been a glorious time in St. Joseph’s Church. The apostolic labors of the zealous missionaries has borne abundant fruit, as shown by the crowds attending all the exercises of the mission. Masses at six, seven and iiine o’clock attracted large numbers of worshippers, young and old, men and women, The evening devotions made evident the necessity for the erection of a much larger building as soon as circumstances permit the work to be taken in hand by the congregation, which is rapidly increasing and keeping pace with the advancement, numerical and otherwise of New Plymouth. During the course of the mission special celebrations were held in honor of Jesus Christ as the Immortal and Divine King of ages, the universal Monarch abiding continually in the most blessed sacrament of* the altar, and also in honor of the blessed virgin Mary, His august and immaculate mother. The mission will be brought to a close to-morrow evening, when Rev. Father Herring will be the preacher, and the ceremony of the renewal of baptismal vows will take place as also the imparting of the papal blessing.
The Rev. Father Son-teimer will open a week’s mission in Waitara to-morrow after ten o’clock mass, and on the conclusion of the mission in Waitara the Catholic residents in and around Urenui wiR he given the benefit of a short mission, the first to be held in that district.
