Mr. W. J. Ewart, clerk, Wellington, has been promoted to be district manager of the Government Insurance Office, New Plymouth. The Hon. Hair, the Manaia veteran, who was knocked down by a motor car recently and badly injured, is progressing satisfactorily. A call to the Rev. R. Scott West, of Sydney; to the charge of St. Andrew’s Church, Auckland, was unanimously sustained by the Auckland Presbytery on Tuesday evening. Mr. Orr Walker, S.M., who succeeds Mr. T. A. B. Bailey, S.M, in the New Plymouth magisterial circuit, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last night. Mr. Bailey leaves for Wanganui on Monday. Mr. Keith Murdoch, who made a name for himself as one of the Australian war correspondents, and later accompanied the Prince of Wales on his tour of the Dominions, has been appointed editor of the Melbourne Herald. The death has occurred of Mrs Margaret Morrison, one of the oldest settlers in the Opouriao Valley, near Whakatane; aged 69 years. Born in Inverness, she arrived in New Zealand 49 years ago, in the sailing ship Douglas, and settled in Canterbury, where she resided for 11 years. The rest of her life was spent in Opouriao Valley.

The death is reported from Lyttelton of Captain George 'Romeril, aged 72 years. The deceased was a native of Jersey, Channel Islands, and came to New Zealand about fifty years ago. He was captain of the first steamship to the Chathams, and for many years traded there in the Kahu and afterwards in the Toroa. He commanded vessels in different parts of New Zealand and went Home to bring the Toroa out for Messrs. Richardson and Co., of Napier.

A visitor to the Dominion is the Rev. W. Meara, Superintendent of the Methodist Central Mission at Johannesburg. Mr. Meara, who has been in Africa for the past 18 years, was a chaplain in the Boer War, and when war broke out in 1914 again offered his services, and served with Generals Botha and Smuts, both in German East and West Africa, afterwards accompanying the South African Brigade to France.
