WOOL MARKET
THE SALES IN SYDNEY. A GOOD DEMAND. By Telegraph.—Press Am—Copyright. Received May 13, 12.45 a.m. Sydney, May 12. Much interest was taken in to-day’fi wool sales, whicr were held under the “Bawra” reserve conditions. The sates started in the morning instead of in the afternoon as formerly, as there were three days’ offerings crowded into one. Over 12,000 bales, mostly merino, were offered and clearance surpassed expectations, very little being passed in. The attendance was large and competition strong. Japanese were specially active, and bought largely of the best classes. French and Yorkshire buyers and local top makers operated freely. Sood to super merinos sold from par to five per cent above the last sales, and mediums and skirtings five to 7% per cent higher. Crossbreds were also in better demand. Prices for greasy merinos touched 28Jd. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
