INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

There was a full attendance at Newton King, Ltd’s mart sale here on Saturday. About 30 pigs were penned for sale. Some of them were of first rate quality, but buyers are still shy. Prices ranged from 6s to 8s for weaners and up to 20s for good slips. Not many poultry were offered, hens making Is ad, young* ducks 2s 7d (a promising line). The sundries —a most comprehensive title —sold well. Vegetables were specially in demand, or as one competitor classed them, “hot stuff.” Tomatoes made 9d to Is 9d per bag and 4s per case. In fruit there was only short supply, pears selling up to 4s per case. The Inglewood Defence Rifle Club has determined to do its utmost to keep alive and, if possible, to increase the local interest in rifle shooting. The members of the club are strongly impressed with the opinion held by many of the highest military authorities on the great value of marksmanship, and though they realise that theirs is only a small part are determined to do as much as they can, even in their small way, to foster the desire for mastery of the rifle amongst the young men of the Dominion. With laudable object the club intends holding competitions whenever possible. On Thursday last a sweepstake handicap match was fired at 500 and 600 yards with the following result: —

The weather conditions wore favorable but not all that could be desired. Nevertheless, with practise, a better average should be attained, and they jnean to improve.
