STEAMER HELD UP.
OVERTIME WORK REFUSED. TROUBLE AT LYTTELTON. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. Trouble has arisen in connection with the discharge of coal from the steamer Doonholm, which arrived from Cardiff on April 22, and has been going on daily since without any necessity for overtime. Within the past few days the vessel has been chartered, and is required to be in an Australian port by a certain date, and to enable her to do so overtime has become necessary. On the ship’s agents. ordering the men back to-night they refused, alleging that the vessel was insufficiently lightered. The agents offered to provide additional lighters, and the men then stated that, not having been offered overtime bill tonight, they were not willing to com'mence, and did not turn to.
The Local Disputes Committee considers the matter to-morrow.
