The inmates of the Old People’s Home desire to thank Mrs. Fookes and the ladies of the Church of England for the concert given theifa. last Saturday afternoon at the home. Special thanks are due to Miss Hamilton, Archdeacon Evans, and Mrs. Home. Melbourne, Ltd., sale bargains continue to attract crowds of shoppers. The Manchester section particularly is very brisk. Housewives seemingly recognise the solid advantages to be gained by buying damasks, sheetings, prints, drillettes, and towels while the sale is on. Gents who appreciate a clean sanitary shave and hair-cut will find W. H. Preece’s Saloon satisfy their requirements. Every instrument sterilised, and each customer gets a clean sterilised hair-brush. Five chairs, and only topgrade workmanship at Preece’s, Devon Street Central. The effect of the stringency of the money market upon farmers was commented upon by Mr. R. G. Robinson, superintendent of the Selwyn Plantation Board. He stated that many farmers, especially in the Bankside district, had applied to him for work. The aplications in many cases came from men of substance who were willing to undertake outside work which would provide them with ready cash, rather than do unremunerative work on their land. Ladies should protect themselves from coughs, colds, sore throats, etc., by putting about 10 drops of Nazol on a handkerchief and placing it inside a blouse.
