LARGELY INCREASED PRODUCTION VALUED AT OVER SEVEN MILLION. By Telegraph,—Press Association. Wellington, May'7. Statistics relative to the quantities of butter and cheese received into grading istorea in the Dominion during March and during the eight-monthly period, August to March, afford a strikng commentary on the fact that during the slump in wool and frozen meat, dairy produce has come to z the rescue of the Dominion. The quantity of butter received during March 1920-21 was 4625 tons, an .increase of 125 per cent over 1919-20. From August to March (eight months) the quantity received was 32,026 tons, an increase of 88 per cent. The value of the August-March receipts in 191920 was £3,084,783 at the rate of 181 s per cWt. For the same period this year the value was £8,967,280, at the rate of 280 s per cwt., an increase of £5,882,497. Of cheese, 5497 tons were received during August-March 1919-20, and from August-March 1920-21, 4919 tone were received, or a decrease of three per cent. The value of the August-March receipts in 1919-20 was £5,094,926, at the rate of 10fd per lb. For the same period this year the value was £6,302,321, at the rate of 13fd per lb, an increase of £l,207,395. .
From foregoing it will be seen that, although there was a falling off of three per cent, in the quantity of cheese received into the grading stores the value shows a substantial increase. The total increase in the value of butter and cheese in the period under review during 1920-21 reached the huge figure of £7,089,-892.
