Carpentier, interviewed at Paris on the eve of his departure, said he was delighted at the prospect of (meeting Dempsey in a few weeks. He was not the least bit afraid of this killer of men. “I ain,” he said, “fully determined to prove I am not always meek as a lamb. I do not want to prophesy as to the duration of the fight, but my method is to find a weak point in my opponent as quickly as possible.” Deschamps said he regretted having to refuse the Sydney Stadium offer of £20,000. Carpentier was very anxious to visit Australia, but firstly the present time is inopportune, and secondly the financial terms were not interesting. He could get the same amount for one match in Europe, as wa's offered from Australia.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. TOURNAMENT AT NEW PLYMOUTH.
