TERRITORIAL POSTINGS.

TOTAL OF 24,000 A YEAR.

DISPOSING OF THE SURPLUS.

Postings to the various units of the territorial force under the new scheme will be made this month. The total number will be 24,090, instead of 30,000 as hitherto. Senior cadets eligible for posting to the territorial force, will, on being passed as medically fiit for service in that force, be posted to units or to the “Non-Effective List,” according to requirements. As a general guide the radius of compulsory attendances for drills and halfday parades from the place of residence will be one hour’s journey, and for whole day parades two hours’ journey. Drill centres with an attendant strength of less than 24 territorials have been closed, but such may be re-opened if this year’s postings will make up the deficiency in numbers. If the numbers of recruits allotted for postings to any particular unit is likely to exceed the number required to bring that unit up to establishment, vacancies for the incoming recruits will be effected by posting of territorials to the i eserve over and above the number entitled to be posted on account of their age. Selections under this category will be made from territorials who have the longest service and are most efficient.

All territorials and senior cadets re- . sidng in a district where there is no I drill centre within the prescribed radius will be posted to a “Non-Effective List,” and will not be posted to or remain on the strength of units or companies. Staff officers-in-charge of regimental districts will be responsible for keeping trace of non-effective details and ensuring that notifications of changes in address are reported to the area officer concerned, so that such trainees may be posted to units or companies ip their new- locality. Consequent upon the introduction of the “Non-Effective List,” there will be no necessity to make any postings to the'general training section, and any men at present belonging to that section will be transferred forthwith to the “Non-Effective List.”
