THE WELFARE LEAGUE.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —I would be grateful if you would allow me to congratulate Mr. H. W. Baxter, through your columns, on hie triumph in forcing the “N.Z. Welfare League” to come out into the open. The local secretary, who seems painfully conscious that his propagandist has made an ass of himself, must have been very angry when he replied to Mr. Baxter. He accuses Mr. Baxter qi being untruthful on the flimsy pretext that he misnamed the “N.Z. Welfare League” by calling it the “Wellington League,” surely proving the truth of the saying that “anger is madness.” Mr. Baxter has been guilty of poking fun at the Welfare—l beg pardon—the “New Zealand Welfare League” and this sacrilege has greatly incensed the local secretary. How dare you, Mr. Baxter, poke fun at the learned, if mentally inebriated, scribe of the League? Do you want him to pass into that painful condition of seeing snakes once again? The “N.Z. Welfare League” is always poking its nose into other people’s business and giving its advice, unasked and unwanted. Let it now accept Mr. Baxter’s advice, and sack the above propagandist, and mine, which is as follows: Let them reinstate the writer of “Ten Minutes’ Talks to Workers,” for he had one-redeeming feature, and that was, he was funny. His economics were screamingly funny.—-I am, etc., A.J.F. Koru, May 5, 1921.
