MAKE OF BUTTER.
LESS THAN ANTICIPATED.
RAINS HAVE COME TOO LATE.
Discussing winter butter prospects with a Dominion reporter, an officer of the Dairying Division of the* Agricultural Department said that the district north of Auckland was experiencing a good wind-up of the season. The make of butter in this district was this sea* son heavier than in most of the other dairying- districts. Recent advices received from the Waikato district were, however, to the effect that owing to the cold weather which was being experienced the anticipated output would not be realised.
As regards the Taranaki and Wellington districts there was nothing new to report, except that the rains had come too late in both these districts to promote the growth of grass before the cold leather set in.
Speaking with regard to the dairying districts generally, the official stated that the autumn had been unfavorable from the producers’ view-point, and the production was more on a par with that of the autumn of two years ago, whup like unfavorable conditions were enced. The autumn of last year was of course exceptionally good, and it was hardly to be expected that every autumn would be up to the same excellent standard.
