WAR ON BOOKMAKERS.
LAW TO BE MORE STRINGENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, May 0. “We are-going to tighten up the law next session,” said the Minister of Justice, when questioned about bookmakers yesterday. He added that the police had shown much activity in the enforcement of the law against bookmakers. Although he recognised that professional betting men had not been put out of business, the position, as far as the law is concerned, was that bookmaking was an unlawful occupation. There has been no weakening on the part of those in authority. The law was intended to be enforced.
